Former Central High star Xavier Worthy is about to catch passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs traded up with the Buffalo Bills to select Worthy with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft from Detroit on Thursday night.

“Going to the Chiefs,” Worthy said on Instagram Live. “I knew it was coming.”

Worthy spoke about the possibilities about being drafted in the first round when he was in Fresno for his youth football camp and said he’s excited if it happens.

Worthy broke the NFL combine record when he ran a 4.21 seconds.

He finished his career at University of Texas with 75 receptions, 1,104 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

Worthy becomes the first player from Central to be drafted in the first round.

He had 55 receptions for 992 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior and helped the Grizzlies to their first-ever CIF Division 1-AA state championship after a 15-0 season in 2019.

“It doesn’t hurt to have down-to-field speed,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid told the media. “He plays a tough game, but I think he’s smart with it too. You don’t want him to run into a wall and hurt himself. At the same time, there’s a time, you gotta go out there and get it. He’s done that at level, now he has to do it at this level. This will be another challenge for him, but he’s shown he can do it at Texas.”
