Ford Confirms U.S.-Spec Ranger, Ranger Raptor Debut May 10
While those of us in the United States have been stuck with the aging P375-generation Ford Ranger, the truck’s successor is already on sale in several foreign markets. Ford is finally ready to stop withholding the updated mid-sizer from its fervent North American customers, confirming the U.S.-spec 2024 Ford Ranger and Ranger Raptor will make their official debut on May 10th.
The news comes by way of a short teaser clip which first aired during NBC’s coverage of the Kentucky Derby. The clip itself doesn’t do a ton to highlight the design of the new truck, instead opting to focus on close-up details. We do get a short look at a (poorly lit) Raptor model on the sand, but there are few details in view. Considering this new truck debuted overseas back in 2021, that decision seems somewhat pointless. That said, fans can easily get an idea of what the new truck will look like by taking a peek at the Australian, European, or Mexican market Rangers already on sale. While the U.S.-spec trucks surely won’t carry the exact same specs or styling as its global market counterparts, the basic layout should remain unchanged. That means a more upright design, with a nod to the larger F-150 in its lighting elements and fascias.
Ranger fans and customers alike have been clamoring for an update to the platform, which made its U.S debut for the 2019 model year. The truck itself is much older than that however, first hitting foreign markets back in 2011. While an initial success in the mid-size segment here in the States, the Ranger had a massive downturn in 2022. Sales were down almost 40 percent compared to the year prior, at just 56,987 units. General Motors also pulled the cover off of its new Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-sizers last year, with customer models already sitting on lots. A new Toyota Tacoma is also arriving in the coming weeks.
Not one to let its grip on any truck segment go lightly, now is the right time for Ford to get the updated Ranger in front of customers. The fact that the Ranger Raptor has already proven to be a capable machine certainly won’t hurt the excitement for next week. Down Under, the truck is powered by the same 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 as found in our Bronco Raptor. The motor provides the Aussie Ranger Raptor with 392 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, which will be a welcomed addition amongst off-roaders. That said, we’ll have to wait until next week for final specs and pricing information on the updated Ranger lineup.
