What’s your drink of choice?

Black Coffee

Black coffee drinkers are old school purists, who like to keep things simple. They can be patient and efficient, but also moody, dismissive and resistant to change.

Latte drinkers and individuals who add milk, cream and sugar seek comfort and like to please people. They are open books who will go out of their way to assist other people, but they can take bad care of themselves and get over-extended.

Frozen or Blended Coffee

Frozen or blended coffee drinkers are trendsetters who like to try new things. They can be childlike, spontaneous and imaginative, but they don’t always make the healthiest choices and can be reckless.

Specific Requests

People who order specific drinks (like soy milk or decaf) like being in control and can be considered selfish or perfectionists. These drinkers tend to make healthy choices and monitor their wellbeing, but they can be overly sensitive worriers who overly focus on rules and control.

Instant Coffee

Instant coffee drinkers were laid back and sometimes procrastinated. They tend to take life as it comes and don’t get overwhelmed by details. They can be bad at planning though.

Still, Dr. Durvasula believes that while this research is certainly amusing and informative, “...we are no more defined by our coffee orders than we are by our astrological signs.”

Ever heard the saying, "You are what you drink?"

According to Los Angeles-based psychologist, Dr. Ramani Durvasula, author of You Are Why You Eat: Change Your Food Attitude, Change Your Life, coffee preference can suggest certain personality traits.

Dr. Durvasula conducted a survey with 1,000 coffee drinkers for the observational study to assess personality styles and psychological traits. Some of the common traits included introversion, extraversion, patience, perfectionism, warmth, vigilance, sensitivity, social audacity and more.

The participants were asked about the way they approach everyday scenarios like making weekend plans, waiting in long lines or planning dinner parties and were given a series of responses to chose from.

The results were pretty intriguing. Check out the slideshow above to learn the results of Dr. Durvasula's study.
