The Weirdest Pizza Deliveries of All Time

Read on to learn the weirdest places pizza has ever been delivered to.

An Airplane

As we mentioned, a recent flight diversion sparked a great pizza delivery story. The flight from Washington to Denver was diverted to Cheyenne because of rain, but the flight crew made the most of the inconvenient situation. There was no food left on the plane, and rather than let passengers get hungry (and possibly angry), the pilot took matters into his own hands. He called Domino's Pizza to order 35 pies for all 160 of his passengers. The pizzas arrived in just 30 minutes!

The Oscars

During the 2014 Academy Awards, host Ellen DeGeneres decided to order pizzas for the hungry actors and actresses in attendance. This stunt surprised and delighted audiences and attendees alike.

Outer Space

In 2001, Pizza Hut announced that it would be the first pizza chain to send pies to outer space. Yuri Usachov ordered a pizza to the International Space Station. It cost Pizza Hut $1 million to send the pizza to outer space.

An Army Base

On July 4, 2012, a group called Pizzas 4 Patriots sent 30,0000 pizzas to the United States Armed Forces in the Kandahar Airfield, Bagram Airbase and Camp Bastion, Afghanistan. They hoped to give the soldiers a "slice of home" on Independence Day. This is also the largest pizza delivery ever made, according to the Guinness World Records.

The White House

President Obama may have extremely important duties (like running the country, for instance), but that doesn't mean the president doesn't crave pizza from time to time. President Obama got a taste of Sommers San Francisco-style pizzas when he was campaigning in Missouri. He likes it so much that Chris Sommers offered to deliver the pizza to White House, but that isn't allowed for security reasons. Instead, Sommers was invited to the White House in 2009 to make the pies for the president, his family and staff.

Recently, a flight from Washington to Denver was diverted because of rain. This may seem like insignificant news, but there's a reason it made headlines. The delay was two hours long, and since there was no food left on the plane to serve those aboard, the pilot called Domino's Pizza and ordered 35 pies for all of his hungry passengers!

But this isn't the first time pizza has been delivered to an unusual location. Between the White House and outer space, it's safe to assume that sometimes people just have to have a slice.
