According to Starbucks, customers purchased over two million Starbucks Cards in the U.S. and Canada on Christmas Eve last year.

This year, the chain expects to sell even more, at a rate of about 1,500 Starbucks Cards per minute.

According to The National Retail Federation, eight in 10 shoppers will purchase a gift card during the holidays. Starbucks Cards debuted only 13 years ago, and in that time over $20 billion has been purchased on them in the U.S. and Canada. In the past year alone, $4 billion has been put on them, according to USA Today.
