KD Finds: Alex Guarnaschelli's Kitchen Picks for the Holidays

Chef Alex Guaranschelli shares her favorite kitchen picks for the holidays, from her baking essentials to the two cookbooks she loves right now.

1. Emile Henri Flame Top Fondue Set

"I love Emile Henri and believe that splurging on nice pieces here and there can make your kitchenware and cooking better," shares Alex. "This fondue set is fun and reliable. I have hosted a kids fondue party for my daughter with dark chocolate fondue and love to simmer cheese and super dry white wine for an adult fondue. I love the retro feeling and the communal eating this inspires."

2. Nordic Ware Snowflake Shortbread Pan

"I am a firm believer in holiday cookie shapes and decorations. Sometimes a little touch like that makes food taste better. I love shortbread and a pan that is tailored to making a special kind of cookie instead of a cake. I also do so love a good Bundt pan, too," reveals Alex.

3. Bennington Potters Handmade Stoneware Pie Pan

Alex recalls, "I grew up with my mother collecting a few pieces from this company and I think the colors and shapes are very organic and inviting. They match a seasonal pie and are American made for over 50 years. Feels like tableware and cookware steeped in American tradition!"

4. Cookbooks

"In my humble opinion, you can never have enough cookbooks. I am an avid collector," Alex tells us. Her two current favorites are Huckleberry: Stories, Secrets and Recipes from Our Kitchen by Zoe Nathan, and Heritage by Sean Brock. "I love books that celebrate the seasonality of food and the bounty of great American ingredients we share as resources in this country. From fruits to grains to beans to meat, these books offer recipes and stories that are accessible to professional chefs and home cooks alike. While these books can be ordered online, I am a great lover of bookstores. If you get a chance, hit up Kitchen Arts and Letters in NYC. They also have an out-of-print library in the store that can be an amazing resource."

5. Jacob Bromwell Heritage Cookie Sheet

"I understand there are many baking sheets that are cheaper, but a good baking sheet lasts forever and can make a difference in every batch of cookies you make. This American made baking sheet stands the test of repeated use," says Alex. "I swear it makes my cookies taste better!"
