Destination Dining: The Zakarians' Most Memorable Meals Around France

"We adore exploring and eating in and around France," explain Margaret and Geoffrey Zakarian. "The landscape is so beautiful in each different area and the rich history provides such textured ground from which these places have sprung up. The best seem to be ones run by passionate people, an incredible attention to detail and a sense of familial hospitality. We can't wait to return to see what we can stumble upon next."

Read on to discover the Zakarian's five favorite French dining destinations that are truly the crème de la crème.

1. Chevre d'Or, Èze Village

In a charming medieval village perched atop a hillside, this hotel restaurant boasts expansive views overlooking the French Mediterranean. "When you look out from this ancient perch, you can't help but think 'This must be what the view from heaven is like'. The panorama is just breathtaking," the Zakarians reveal.

2. Le Grille at Hotel de Paris, Monte Carlo

"The rotisserie spits helmed by [Alain] Ducasse are extremely impressive as is the embroidered linen that lays over every table," offer the Zakarians on the restaurant just outside the bounds of France. "The roof on this magical restaurant opens, and if you are there on Grand Prix weekend you can have a bird's eye view of the action. Seeing these race cars speeding through the streets of Monte Carlo is quite impressive."

3. Spring, Paris

"It was worth all the hype to land a table here as Daniel Rose's cooking was inspirational, delicious and had a point of view from start to finish," the Zakarians say of this classic French restaurant, describing the combination of these qualities as "rare to find." "Some restaurants try to be too much to too many people. We admire someone with the guts to have such a clear vision."

4. Bastide de Moustiers, Moustiers Sainte-Marie

According to the couple, this haunt is "a magical auberge in the hauntingly beautiful Alpes de Haute Provence region. They offer up the most exquisite regional cuisine we have come across, and the sights, smells and landscapes get stamped in your memory after visiting."

5. Au Levain du Marais, Paris

"Touted as one of the best croissants in Paris, you expect to find an outlandishly large bakery revved for production. However, what you find is not only the best croissant in Paris but a true authentic boulangerie," share the Zakarians. "The outside decor of this petit shop is flourished and beautiful and the inside smells of craftsmanship."
