Alicia Keys Dishes on Her New App and Favorite Food

We caught up with Grammy-award winning singer, Alicia Keys, to talk about her new, interactive kids app "The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee." The app focuses on a young New York City girl's relationship with her grandmother. It integrates storytelling, music sung by Keys and an interactive journal into one kid-friendly app on sale now for $3.99 on iTunes.

Alicia told us that the app was inspired by her relationship with her own grandmother. We wanted to know if there was a special dish her grandmother used to make for her. Alicia immediately thought of the cream of wheat her grandmother always made for breakfast. She called her grandmother's cream of wheat "the most delicious thing I've ever tasted." Alicia makes herself a bowl of cream of wheat when she feels a little down and said that it always makes her feel better!

Alicia's new app was also inspired by her two year-old son. When we asked her what her son's favorite snacks are, she said that he actually has a pretty wide palatte--he loves carrots and hummus! Like any kid, though, Alicia's son also loves to snack on graham crackers and gummy bears.

It made us smile to hear Alicia talk about her grandmother's special breakfast, and it brought to mind meals with our own families and the memories we associate with our grandmothers. If you're in the mood for a special recipe from grandma, try Grandma May's Biscuits, Grandma's Crushed Potatoes or Grandma's Roast Beef.
