A new Food Lion opens today in the Triangle, the chain’s third new store this year

Pittsboro shoppers will now have another option for their grocery shopping needs.

A new Food Lion location is now open at 70 Ballantrae Ct. in the Briar Chapel area of the Chatham County town, the Salisbury-based company announced Wednesday.

The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, the announcement said.

The store will feature “an extensive product assortment” that includes fresh sushi, pre-cut fruit and other grab-and-go items “to help make any meal easier.” The store will also include self-service hot wing and Asian food bars, as well as items from Nature’s Promise, Food Lion’s “affordable brand of wholesome and organic products.”

The store will also carry several products with local and North Carolina ties, including beer from local Pittsboro brewery Carolina Brewing, Bright Leaf Hot Dogs from Smithfield and local produce from Cottle Farms in Faison.

Inside the store, shoppers will have the option of using self-checkout lanes. Customers will also have the option of shopping from home by using the Food Lion To Go grocery pick up service, “which allows customers to place an order with the click of a button while experiencing the same low prices and fresh food items they receive in the store.”

In announcing the new store location, Food Lion also announced that the company has donated 30,000 meals to a local church through Food Lion Feeds, the retailer’s hunger-relief initiative. The announcement said Food Lion Feeds has donated more than 970 million meals to neighbors in need since 2014.

The Briar Chapel location marks the third new store Food Lion has opened this year.
