Fond du Lac parks are ideal for outdoor summer recreation, events and family traditions, readers say

FOND DU LAC – Summer brings park outings and recreation opportunities in Fond du Lac.

Some of these include fast-approaching events to Lakeside Park, including the Fondy Food Truck Festival May 26, Art on the Island June 2 and Walleye Weekend June 7-9.

Streetwise asked readers what their favorite part about their parks were, and answers ranged from specific features to family traditions.

Some are looking forward to the pedestrian bridge connecting Lakeside Park and Lakeside Park West, and others are hoping to see new bike and walking paths as a result.

When summer is in full swing, several readers rent out shelters for annual family reunions, birthday parties and other gatherings, with a few having celebrated their weddings in Lakeside Park's pavilion.

Children and families enjoy the playgrounds at several of the parks, as well as Lakeside Park's recently-upgraded playground and the splash pad. The Lakeside Park rides, which open May 25, are another popular amenity.

"We delight in watching (our grandson) ride the same carousel and train we, our kids and now he, too, can enjoy," Renee Will said.

Some like the simplicity of the parks and being able to walk along the trails and bridges and sit to enjoy nature.

Another popular amenity readers are looking forward to in the summer is the pool at Taylor Park, which will open June 8. Open swim will be noon to 4:15 p.m. daily, and adult lap swim and water walking hours will be 10 to 11:50 a.m. and 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. through Aug. 18. There will also be open swim 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays until Aug. 1.

Even in the winter months, Lakeside Park draws many people, as many readers enjoy the tradition of cruising the park for holiday decorations and the light show.
