Floyd Mayweather to pay for George Floyd’s funeral, says Mayweather’s camp

Boxer Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. is paying funeral expenses for Minnesota man George Floyd, who died in police custody Monday after an officer knelt on his neck for several minutes ignoring, the dying man’s plea for air.

Leonard Ellerby, the CEO of the former champ’s production company broke the news to ESPN Monday.

"He'll probably get mad at me for saying that, but yes, (Mayweather) is definitely paying for the funeral," Ellerbe said.

According to Ellerbe, his boss has quietly made several donations of this sort over the past couple of decades.

ESPN reports that Mayweather also paid for the 2011 funeral of fighter Genaro Hernandez, whom he defeated for the super featherweight title in 1998. That would be Mayweather’s first championship belt, but not his last. The 43-year-old pugilist went on to win titles in five weight divisions en route to a 50-0 record.

The controversial fighter also has a history of trouble outside the ring, including multiple instances of domestic abuse, one of which landed him in jail in 2012.

Celebrity Net Worth reports Mayweather is worth $505 million.
