Florida teen tried to kill man so he could ‘play with’ his corpse

A Florida teen is in custody for allegedly plotting to kill a man who often jogged by his home so that he could keep the man’s body “to play with,” a plan allegedly inspired by the movie “Scream.”

Logan Smith, 18, was charged this week with attempted murder after allegedly attacking a jogger near his home in Cocoa, about 46 miles southeast of Orlando, Fox 35 Orlando reports.

The jogger fought off Smith when the teen tried to strangle him and managed to hold him down until Brevard County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, according to an arrest report obtained the outlet.

The report said that Smith, who had never previously met the jogger, told authorities he had intended to keep the man’s body in his closet to “play with the victim to fulfill his sexual fantasies,” the outlet reports.

The teen, whose fatal fixation allegedly started after watching meta-horror comedy “Scream,” started struggling in the wake of his father’s fatal car accident five years ago, Smith’s mother’s boyfriend told the Fox 35.

“He wouldn’t have been the kid you invited to the cool parties. He wouldn’t be the kid that had the cool shoes,” said the boyfriend, whose name was not published. “A person like Logan is more of a loner. They don’t like to go out of their comfort zone.”

With the family now “at a loss,” the boyfriend said Smith’s family is going to get a lawyer and seek out help for the teen, according to the outlet.
