FSU softball announces schedule changes regarding Jane Sanders Classic; Looking for games

Florida State softball will not play in the Janes Sanders Classic this weekend in Eugene, Oregon, the school announced in a press release Tuesday.

The No. 12 Seminoles were set to travel to Eugene on Wednesday to play four games Friday and Saturday against Mount St. Mary's, Maryland, Washington and Oregon.

The Huskies are ranked No. 4 in the latest Softball America Top 25 poll, while Oregon is just outside the top 25.

However, the trip is off due to weather and travel complications.

"I think sometimes it's outdoor sports, you kind of have to go with the flow and Mother Nature always wins," FSU head coach Lonni Alameda said at a media availability Tuesday.

"In our case, and so we're just trying to be smart on the part of going across country, knowing what the weather forecasts are

The weekend forecast calls for a mixture of showers and snow, according to Weather.com. Temperatures were expected to be in the low 40s.

FSU (11-3) is coming off a 6-0 weekend at the Dugout Club Classic held at JoAnne Graf Field, led by dominant weekends from Michaela Edenfield and Jaysoni Beachum.

Oregon and FSU agreed to extend their game contract to 2025, and FSU will travel to Eugene to play the Ducks next season.

"So really excited to get back out and play Oregon again next year, we really want to get there," Alameda said. "It's Makenna [Reid's] home state. It's a beautiful place to play. So we're definitely committed to getting out there."

At this time, it does not appear that FSU will play any games this weekend.

FSU softball assistant coach Travis Wilson tweeted on his X account (formerly Twitter) that the Seminoles are looking to add some games.

"There's definitely some programs that have lost a game. So we'll just kind of put it out there and see if we get some work great. If not, we get great practice, and we just get after it again, next week down and go close," Alameda said.

Alameda added the program could look to get rest this weekend and play earlier next week, or hold team scrimmages.

The Seminoles will travel to Fort Myers, Florida, for the FGCU Spring Break Classic next week.

FSU's next scheduled home game is a doubleheader against South Dakota State on Mar. 12.
