Florida State impressed in its first game of year two under Mike Norvell, taking Notre Dame to the limit in Week 1 before falling in overtime. Week 2 was anything but a step forward for the Seminoles.

FSU fell to FCS program Jacksonville State at home, 20-17. The Gamecocks won in incredible fashion, scoring on a last-second Hail Mary to top the ‘Noles on their home field.

After the game, a former Florida State football player tweeted that he was told that the locker room was “in shambles” after the loss. The tweet was deleted, but the questions about Norvell’s hold on the program, which has been rudderless since the last few years under Jimbo Fisher, are heating up. We’re already seeing names floated for the job, after a 3-8 start to his time with the ACC power.

Norvell is keeping a brave face as things close in on him, as they did Willie Taggart just a few years ago. Speaking to the media, he rejected the idea that his team is giving up on things already.

“This football team’s not going to quit. We have to build and get better and we’re going to,” he said, via the Orlando Sentinel. “This will be something that we look back to. Nobody wants to have the experience. We want to have the feelings, but it’s our opportunity to respond to it and it’s our opportunity to go get better.”

Going against the idea that the team has packed it in, Norvell says that his players and coaches aren’t “dragging out heads around” as they now prepare for Wake Forest.

“We didn’t just sit out there and drag our heads around,” coach Mike Norvell said during Monday’s news conference. “Was anybody happy? No. They were sick to their freaking stomach about what happened Saturday night. But you go back out and you go to work.

“We played two games. We lost both games on the last play of the game. At the end of the day, they made the plays necessary and we have not played to the level that I believe that we’re capable of.”

FSU is on the road to face a 2-0 Wake Forest team. Another loss, and things are going to get extremely hairy in Tallahassee.
