Florida Sen. Bob Graham dies and leaves memories of an iconic public servant.

Bob Graham: Florida lost a leader

As the former state Rep. Sean Shaw wrote regarding the late Sen. Bob Graham: "Florida weeps for you." He was the "best of Florida." As Graham said in his farewell speech to the Senate, "We must work together to understand the problem and then develop solutions which are driven by pragmatism, not ideology." During Graham's years of public service, we never experienced such hostility and intentional malice toward vulnerable populations as we are experiencing today. He was very well educated himself and had teachers as family members, and he was a strong advocate for public education. His 400-workday strategy helped him to connect with multiple types of everyday citizens, and both he and his fellow workers benefited from their shared experiences. Florida has lost an outstanding role model for public servants. For democracy to thrive, we must elect more candidates like him.

Trumped-up charges won't stop Trump

The Democrats appear to have borrowed and implemented a proven, winning strategy for the upcoming election. Conduct a show trial on trumped up charges, gag and incarcerate your opponent and cruise to a popular vote victory. While it has worked well in the former Soviet Union and many present day socialist countries, it remains to be seen if the U.S. is ready for it.

Trump's truth-phobic

I've noticed Donald Trump loves to make very public and false accusations during every trial break. It needs to be said that the last thing Trump ever wants is a fair trial. He wants the most unfair trial possible, in his favor. There is only one way to shut him up at any court proceeding. Just place a Bible under his left hand and raise his right hand and swear to tell the truth.

Congress needs a history lesson

It seems some of our Trump acolytes in the House of Representatives either slept through history class or are working back channels to the Kremlin. They only need to study 1933 through the end of World War II. It was a time of isolationists, America First movement and German Bund camps here in the United States. Our leaders chose to make unpopular but decisive decisions. This brings us to the delayed but vital vote to supply military, humanitarian and financial aide to our friends. Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan. The vote was significant. There were a hundred or so Republicans who voted "no," which was a "yes" vote for [Russia's Vladimir] Putin. The Red menace is out in the open. Take a look and vote accordingly.
