Florida Gov. DeSantis says someone should ‘chuck’ Dr. Anthony Fauci across the Potomac

Self-proclaimed “Top Gov” Ron DeSantis has issued a bizarre threat against White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci.

“I’m just sick of seeing him! I know he says he’s gonna retire,” the Florida governor said Wednesday to a cheering audience on his “Keep Florida Free Tour.”

“Someone needs to grab that little elf and chuck him across the Potomac.”

Brooklyn-born Fauci, who at 5-foot-7 is just two inches shorter than DeSantis’ listed height, announced Monday that he will be stepping down as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in December.

“After more than 50 years of government service, I plan to pursue the next phase of my career while I still have so much energy and passion for my field,” he said in a statement.

“Thanks to the power of science and investments in research and innovation, the world has been able to fight deadly diseases and help save lives around the globe. I am proud to have been part of this important work and look forward to helping to continue to do so in the future.”

As DeSantis has spent the COVID-19 pandemic ignoring and banning medical advice, he has also personally targeted Fauci, including selling “Don’t Fauci My Florida” merchandise last year as cases spiked across the Sunshine State.

A spokesperson for the NIAID did not immediately return a request for comment Thursday on DeSantis’ threat.

Earlier this month, Thomas Patrick Connally Jr. was sentenced to more than three years in prison for emailed threats to Fauci, including one that said he and his family should be “dragged into the street, beaten to death and set on fire.”
