Is my Florida flight canceled or delayed because of Tropical Storm Nicole? How to check

Will Tropical Storm Nicole mess up your travel plans?

It’s possible. The Palm Beach County airport is ceasing commercial flights at 9 a.m. Wednesday and Orlando International Airport said it will cease commercial operations at 4 p.m. Wednesday until further notice in preparation for Nicole. Other airports may follow.

National Hurricane Center expects the storm will be at or near Category 1 level hurricane strength when it approaches Florida’s east coast Wednesday night. The forecast is calling for Nicole to bring heavy rain, strong winds and dangerous storm surge to parts of the state. So, even if your airport doesn’t close, there’s a chance flights might be delayed or canceled.

This could cause some travel headaches for people planning to fly in or out of some Florida airports.

While we don’t have a crystal ball to check if there are any flight cancellations or delays in your future, here are some tools you can use to track your flight’s status:

Flight status at Florida airports

Many airports usually have online flight trackers you can use. Here are some of them:

Miami International Airport has two online trackers you can use.

One of MIA’s flight trackers shows a list of all expected arrivals and departures with options to use a drop-down menu to narrow results. It shows the carrier, flight number and where the plane is going to or coming from. It also gives real-time updates on the flight’s arrival or departure status, which concourse the terminal is in, and the location of baggage claim.

The other online tool lets you track by flight or route. If you know the carrier, the date and the flight number, this tool might be easier to use since it will only pull the information for your flight.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s flight tracker works by flight or route. To use it, you’ll need to know the date, along with the airline carrier and flight number, or the departure and arrival airport. The tool also gives people the option to see a list of all expected arrivals and departures and details on the flight’s terminal and baggage claim, too.

Palm Beach International Airport’s website provides updates on whether arriving and departing flights are on time, delayed or canceled. However, the airport recommends you check with the airline directly for the most up-to-date info.

Orlando International Airport lets you track flights by airline, city, flight number or by time. You can also sign up to receive alerts, either by email or by phone, whenever the status of your flight changes.

Tampa International Airport’s online tracker lets you search by flight number, city or airline.

Tallahassee International Airport’s real-time flight tracker lets you search by airline, date and flight number or by route.

Check with the airlines

Another way to check your flight status is with the airline directly. For some, this might be easier to do, especially if you’ve downloaded the airline’s app. You can also use the airline’s website. Here’s where to go for some of the popular airlines:

American Airlines. You can also download the app from the App store for Apple users or the Google Play store for Android users.

Delta. You can also download the app from the App store for Apple users or the Google Play store for Android users.

United Airlines. You can also download the app from the App store for Apple users or the Google Play store for Android users.

Southwest Airlines. You can also download the app from the App store for Apple users or the Google Play store for Android users.
