Flood advisory, thunderstorm warnings issued as storms approach Triangle

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the Triangle until 9 p.m., predicting one to two inches of rain in some areas Saturday evening.

Multiple thunderstorm alerts were issued for Durham, Orange, Wake and Johnston counties early Saturday evening, with the NWS warning there was potential for nickel-sized hail and gusts up to 50 mph.

A strong thunderstorm passed through the Triangle Saturday afternoon, part of a larger line of storms bringing possible hail, at times torrential rain and powerful wind gusts. The NWS advised anyone outside to take shelter indoors.

The NWS issued a flood advisory for Durham, Orange and Wake counties until 9 p.m. Saturday, predicting one to two inches of rainfall and minor flooding in some areas.

Storms are expected to continue through 4 a.m. Sunday morning, the NWS said.
