Flight delays, cancellations at Dallas-Fort Worth as strong storms roll over North Texas
Flight delays and cancellations are piling up at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Wednesday as severe storms rumble across North Texas.
More than 300 flights were delayed as of 4 p.m., or 28% of departing aircraft, according to FlightAware. At least 188 flights out of DFW had been canceled. One traveler posted on X that passengers were waiting up to an hour for luggage because lightning was preventing ground crews from working.
Much of North and Central Texas is under a tornado watch through Wednesday evening, covering 36 counties.
Fort Worth-based American Airlines was suffering the biggest brunt of delays with at least 694 flights nationwide on Wednesday, nearly a fifth of its daily schedules. More than 200 of the carrier’s flights were canceled.
Strong storms were expected to roll across the South from Louisiana to Tennessee into the evening.
