Five Section V girls soccer teams clinched a state final four berth: Here's how

Fairport chanted "We're not done yet!" following an epic double overtime win in the Section V girl soccer finals last week.

One win later and the Red Raiders' season is still not over.

Fairport's riveting 2-1 win over Section VI's Lancaster in Friday's Class AAA Far West Regional game lifted the Red Raiders into the Class AAA state final four. It was perhaps the most thrilling of this weekend's region finals as Section V teams posted a 5-1 record against Section VI's champions.

What it means

While Fairport dug itself out of a one-goal deficit, Spencerport, Haverling,Holley and Fillmore each used shutouts to punch their tickets to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association final four.

Not to mention athletes like Cate Burns and Hope Russell continued to climb the record books.

Top plays

Fairport's Savanna Biehler was cold as ice when she nailed a penalty kick to tie Lancaster at 1 in the 34th minute of the Class AAA regional. The Red Raiders' game-winner came on a corner kick in the 68th. Hannah Fleming's header deflected off a Legends player and appeared to cross the goal line before another player deflected the ball from between the pipes.

Andrea Lewis knocked in the rebound for what would have been her second go-ahead goal in as many games, but officials already whistled Fleming's goal good.

Far West Regionals

In Class AA, eight-time champion Spencerport (21-0-0) was led by Lindsay Lenhard's four goals and four assists, and Cate Burns' defense tied the Section V record for shutouts in a season with a 10-0 win over Niagara-Wheatfield. Burns' 19 shutouts tied Jasper-Troupsburg's Elizabeth Groff (2019) for the Section V clean sheets record. The state record is 20.

In Class D, Hope Russell scored three goals in Fillmore's 6-0 win over North Collins. Russell has netted 69 goals this season — the third most in Section V history and fourth highest total in the state record books. She needs four more goals to move into third all-time in NYS history, and is seven away from second on both lists. Marion's Chole DeLyser owns the two highest totals with 76 goals in 2019 and 79 in 2018.

Multiple offsides penalties hindered Aquinas (16-2-2) in a 2-0 loss to Lewiston-Porter in the Class A final.
