Fitness Influencer Larissa Borges Dead at 33
Larissa Borges, a social media fitness influencer from Brazil, died suddenly on Monday, Aug. 28 after suffering back-to-back cardiac arrest episodes. She was just 33 years old.
The Instagram sensation from Brazil's Federal District was reportedly traveling in Gramado when she went into cardiac arrest on Aug. 20, according to local news outlet G1. She went into a coma and was hospitalized for a week, before suffering a second cardiac arrest that she sadly did not survive.
Authorities have already scheduled an autopsy, though preliminary findings reveal that drugs and alcohol may have been a factor in Borges' untimely death, per the New York Post.
"There is a report of a possible ingestion of narcotic substances, accumulated with alcoholic beverages," Deputy Gustavo Barcellos told the publication about the ongoing investigation.
"The body was sent for necropsy," the deputy also stated, adding, "We will try to search through laboratory tests for substances that she possibly consumed."
Borges' family confirmed the devastating news with an Instagram post earlier in the week, along with the caption, "Our beloved daughter, take your steps with God, and be blessed."
"She was known for her captivating personality, always bring smiles to those around her," the family wrote in the post, according to a translation from Fox News.
"Her presence illuminated any environment and her contagious energy will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her," they added.
The family's post also noted that Borges "struggled tireless[ly] for her life," while "facing all the obstacles that a warrior and determined woman makes—without complaining."
"May your soul rest in peace and may your memory always be remembered with affection and gratitude," her family's message added, while noting that information regarding her burial services will be released "soon."
