The first trailer for Zach Braff's new romantic comedy, French Girl, starring Vanessa Hudgens, has been released.

The film had its US premiere at this year's Santa Barbara International Film Festival and gives the classic rom com love triangle a certain Francophone twist.

As the first official trailer for French Girl teases, Zach Braff's hopeless romantic Gordon is determined to propose to the love of his life (Evelyne Brochu), before she is offered a job in Quebec by the titular femme fatale – who also turns out to be Gordon's girlfriend's ex.

The film's official plot synopsis reads as follows: "Zach Braff, Vanessa Hudgens, and Evelyne Brochu star in this heartwarming romantic comedy.

"Gordon, a hopeless romantic, finds his proposal plans are thrown into chaos when his girlfriend is swept away to Quebec by a job offer from her ex, a sophisticated celebrity chef.

"Determined to keep their love alive, Gordon leaves Brooklyn for her hometown, only to find himself hilariously out of his depth in attempting to charm her hard-to-impress, French-speaking family."

The trailer also offers a glimpse at what seems to be a fully fledged car chase, a healthy dash of romance and a very inappropriate vocal performance at a funeral.

Alongside Braff, Hudgens and Brochu, French Girl stars Luc Picard (Audition), Antoine Olivier Pilon (Mommy), Isabelle Vincent, Charlotte Aubin, Muriel Dutil and William Fichtner (Armageddon).

The film was co-written and co-directed by James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright in their feature film directorial debut.

In a statement to PEOPLE, the pair have called the film a, "love letter to the place we were born and raised, the beautiful Canadian province of Quebec.

"Quebec City, the province’s picturesque capital, became the perfect setting for our love story; enchanting landscapes, rich history, delicious food and more importantly, a wonderful people that revere family and tradition. This backdrop, coupled with the fast paced, ego-driven culinary world, infuses French Girl with the energy of a modern-day fairy tale."

French Girl will be available in US theatres March 15, and released digitally on March 19.
