The first trailer for Netflix's new Riverdale-inspired movie, The Archies, has been released.

The Hindi-language film, which is based on the same comics as the hit supernatural teen series, will follow a fictional music group.

"Set in '60s India in a fictional town called Riverdale, The Archies is a coming-of-age musical following the lives of the town's favourite set of teenagers – Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Ethel and Dilton," reads the official logline for the film.

"Seen through the lens of the unique Anglo-Indian community, The Archies explores friendship, freedom, love, heartbreak and rebellion."

Netflix posted the exciting teaser to X — formerly Twitter — ahead of its release on December 7, captioned: "You say they're young and they've got nowhere to be, We say The Archies have too much to do!"

Similar to the series, the fun trailer begins with resident popular girl Veronica returning to Riverdale, before showcasing the subsequent antics of the iconic group – which include extravagant dance routines, songs and costumes.

The Archies is directed by Zoya Akhtar and stars Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Yuvraj Menda, Agastya Nanda and Vedang Raina.

The first teaser trailer for the film was released in June as part of Netflix's TUDUM: Global Fan Event, following the conclusion of the CW series.

Riverdale ended after seven successful series earlier this year. The final season saw the group of characters get stuck in the 1950s. Series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa spoke exclusively to Digital Spy in March to explain the change in tone for season seven.

"The gift about this creative decision is it allowed us to go back to the very DNA of The Archie comic books, which is teenagers in high school," he said.

The Archies will be released on Netflix on December 7. Riverdale airs on The CW in the US and will end with season 7. In the UK, you can stream via Netflix.
