"I don't feel like we're partners in this, I haven't for a long time," Gabriel tearfully admits, as we follow through their divorce proceedings and the emotional toll it takes on them as they fight over their son Owen.

The reviews for Our Son have been largely glowing, with Deadline calling it "a beautifully judged human drama that dissects a dying marriage with humor and intelligence".

There has also been praise for the performances, with Deadline saying that Porter's turn is "especially open and moving", while The Playlist suggested the movie "deserves to open as many doors for Evans as it does for the character he plays".

Evans previously opened up about making the movie, telling People that the experience was "traumatic at times, painful at times, very real, very visceral and very relatable".

"You don't have to be gay to enjoy this or understand this story," he added. "People all over the world go through divorce, breakups and custody battles.

"Families break up all the time, but this is the story of hope, and how they get through it, and how a new chapter is started, but a different kind of chapter."

Our Son is set for release in US cinemas on December 12. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
