The first trailer has dropped for Flamin' Hot, a new biopic directed by Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria.

Flamin' Hot tells the story of Richard Montañez, who claims he created the popular snack Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

The trailer shows Montañez working as a janitor at a Frito-Lay factory in California, when he got the idea of making a spicy snack that was so hot it burns your mouth — but in a good way.

Against all odds, Montañez managed to pitch his idea to executives at Frito-Lay by demonstrating how the growing Hispanic community was being underserved and needed a snack of their own.

Montañez went on to become vice president of multicultural sales and community promotions for PepsiCo, Frito-Lay's parent company, and eventually wrote autobiography, A Boy, a Burrito, and a Cookie, and Flamin' Hot on which the film is based.

Flamin' Hot stars Sons of Anarchy's Jesse Garcia as Montañez, with Annie Gonzalez playing his wife, Judy.

The cast also includes Emilio Rivera, Dennis Haysbert, Pepe Serna, Tony Shalhoub, and TikTok star Brice Gonzalez.

In 2021, Montañez's story was called in to question when the Los Angeles Times disputed his claim that he had created Flamin' Hot Cheetos.

Speaking about Flamin' Hot months after the LA Times article, Longoria said the film was a story about perseverance and the American Dream.

"I think probably the greatest challenge was making sure we stayed true to the theme of the movie, which is opportunity is not distributed equally," Longoria told Variety.

"And when that happens, you have to work twice as hard and twice as long and be twice as good. And you still have to persevere and the story is so many things. It's rags to riches, it's American dream 101, it's about perseverance, it's about the underdog.

"But at the end of the day, it's also about one person's perspective and struggle within themselves. So it's a beautiful, beautiful biopic."

Flamin' Hot is released on Disney+ in the US and UK on June 9, and will also be available on Hulu in the US.
