First trailer for Agents of SHIELD star's new movie

Agents of SHIELD star Natalia Cordova-Buckley's new movie The Portrait has unveiled a brand new trailer.

The actress, best known for her role as Yo-Yo Rodriguez in the Marvel series, plays devoted wife Sofia, whose obsession over a strange portrait resembling her husband Alex causes her to question her sanity.

"In the wake of her husband's devastating accident, a devoted wife becomes consumed by a mysterious portrait that resembles him in his happier days," reads the film's official synopsis.

"However, as her obsession intensifies, the painting starts to unleash terror upon her life, leading her to question whether it is possessed by a malevolent force or if she is losing her sanity.

"Caught between the haunting unknown and her own fears, she must confront her deepest fears and unravel the unsettling truth before it's too late".

The spine-tingling trailer sees Cordova-Buckley's character try desperately to ignite a memory in her husband after his accident, before coming across the ominous self-portrait that sparks a spooky chain of events.

"My mind's playing tricks on me," says a terrified Sofia, as the unexplainable events take a shocking turn.

The film also stars True Blood's Ryan Kwanten as Alex and Academy Award-nominated actress Virgina Madsen, who will play Sofia's "enigmatic cousin Mags" — who seems to know a lot about the man behind the portrait.

Whilst the "slow-burn psychological horror" is yet to have a UK release date, it premiered at the Raindance Film Festival in London last week (October 31).

Other films that were screened at the UK's leading indie film festival included Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington's Blood for Dust and Yellowjackets lead Courtney Eaton's drama Parachute.

The Portrait doesn't have a UK release date yet.
