Wichita State made history last week as the first team to knock off a No. 1 seed in the American Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament.

While the Cinderella run didn’t end in a championship, it did help the Shockers lock up their first postseason berth since 2015. After an 18-14 season with a No. 103 NET ranking, WSU received an at-large bid to the 64-team WNIT tournament on Sunday evening. The official WNIT bracket, schedule, and game tip times to determine WSU’s opponent will be released on Monday.

WSU has already secured the most wins (18) in the six-year tenure of coach Keitha Adams and now the first postseason berth, the first since the Shockers played in the 2015 NCAA tournament. According to the terms of Adams’ contract, which runs through the 2023-24 season, she is set to receive close to a $15,000 bonus for the WNIT appearance.

The Shockers are one of four teams from the AAC in the WNIT field, joined by Memphis, SMU and Tulane.
