First look at Lucifer's Tom Ellis in new Netflix rom-com Players
Netflix has released a first look at Tom Ellis in upcoming romantic comedy Players, in which he stars opposite Gina Rodriguez.
The Lucifer star plays Nick, Mack's (Rodriguez) love interest. A sportswriter living in New York, Mack resorts to "plays" to collect a series of hook up together with her best friend Adam (Damon Wayans Jr), with one rule chief among their many commandments: You can't build a relationship from a play.
The game changes when Mack falls for Nick, a charming war correspondent. Now catching feelings for the protagonist, her friends will need to come up with a plan to keep Nick around for the long haul.

The newly released shots see Ellis as Nick having a romantic, late-night conversation with Mack, presumably out front her house. Other images include snaps of Mack having a beer with her pals and the gang attending what seems to be a fancy soirée, a potentially perfect environment to put their dating tricks to the test.
Alongside Rodriguez, Ellis and Wayans, Players also stars Joel Courtney (The Kissing Booth), Augustus Prew (The Morning Show), Liza Koshy (Work It), Ego Nwodim (Saturday Night Live), and Marin Hinkle (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).
Directed by Pitch Perfect 3 filmmaker Trish Sie from a screenplay by Whit Anderson (behind episodes of Ozark and Daredevil), Players has an on-point release date. The film will become available to stream on the platform on Valentine's Day, February 14.

Despite landing a 2024 release, the film was first announced in March 2021. At the time, Ellis took to his Instagram to comment on the casting announcement, sharing his excitement with his followers: "Yay, I'm very excited to be doing this movie!!!".
Prior to Players, Ellis has proved his rom-com skills in Netflix's Isn't It Romantic, starring Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth.
Players starts streaming on Netflix on February 14.
