Here’s Your First Look At Kingpin In Marvel’s Echo Series

Daredevil Echo Kingpin

Marvel’s next TV show in the MCU is just around the corner, with Echo set to premiere early next week on Disney+ and Hulu. Ahead of the series’ premiere, Marvel has been showing off bits and bobs of the series on its socials, and now we’ve got a good look at the return of Kingpin.

Marvel released a new trailer for Echo on Twitter yesterday, highlighting the dastardly villain and gang lord Kingpin, whose real name is Wilson Fisk. The trailer runs through a series of clips featuring Kingpin’s previous appearances in the MCU, including clips from Hawkeye, where both he and Echo’s eponymous superhero, Maya Lopez, were introduced.

The trailer also, notably, includes clips from the Netflix Marvel series Daredevil, officially confirming it as entirely canon. We knew this was the case previously, as we’d seen Charlie Cox’s Daredevil return in She-Hulk, but this is the first time we’ve had in-universe confirmation that the events of the Netflix series are still canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Echo is part of a new initiative at Marvel called Marvel Spotlight, which showcases smaller, more focused stories in the MCU. The show is the first series in the initiative, and will run for just five episodes, which is shorter than most other MCU series.

It focuses on Maya Lopez, a deaf martial artist who was first featured in Hawkeye. Lopez previously worked for Kingpin, before learning that the crime boss was responsible for her father’s death, after which she vowed revenge. The series will also feature appearances from Daredevil, ahead of his own rebooted series, Daredevil: Born Again, which is expected to start airing sometime in late 2024 or early 2025.

Here’s how Marvel describes Echo:

Streaming exclusively on Disney, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.

Echo is set to be released on Disney+ and Hulu on January 9, 2024.
