Mare of Easttown star Winslet previously opened up on what inspired her to take on the role of Miller, saying that she was a "force to be reckoned with".

"To me, she was a life force to be reckoned with, so much more than an object of attention from famous men with whom she is associated," she told Sky.

"This photographer, writer, reporter, did everything she did with love, lust, and courage, and is an inspiration of what you can achieve, and what you can bear, if you dare to take life firmly by the hands and live it at full throttle."

Lee is the directorial debut of cinematographer Ellen Kuras, who has worked on the likes of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Personal Velocity: Three Portraits, Angela, and Swoon.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Kuras opened up on how she and Winslet bonded during their time on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and how reading a book about Lee Miller inspired her to create the film and immediately gave her an idea of who should play her.

"I was like, 'Oh, my God, Kate looks just like Lee Miller'," she said, recalling how she brought two copies of the book and gifted one to Winslet.

She said that years later, Winslet brought an antique table that was owned by the photographer and picked up the book again, leading her to ask Kuras: "Why was there never a film made about this incredible person?"

Lee is coming soon to UK cinemas and Sky Cinema.
