Behind-the-scenes images of Timothée Chalamet's Bob Dylan biopic give a first look at Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo.

The Maleficent actor was pictured in costume alongside Dune actor Chalamet, who will star as Dylan in A Complete Unknown, while filming in New York.

The actors can be seen laughing, with Fanning wearing a striped, turtleneck jumper, black trousers, and a burgundy coat. Chalamet is carrying a guitar and dons blue jeans, a matching plaid shirt, and a tan jacket.

Fanning's character is a representation of Dylan's real-life partner Suze Rotolo, whom he dated from 1961 until 1964 when they split after his affair with Joan Baez.

Rotolo died in 2011, aged 67, and inspired several of Dylan's biggest hits including 'Boots of Spanish Leather', 'Don't Think Twice', and 'It's All Right'.

The cast includes Edward Norton as folk singer and social activist Pete Seeger, Boyd Holbrook as legendary musician Johnny Cash, and Monica Barbaro as singer-songwriter Baez.

A release date for the film has not yet been announced, but a synopsis gives insight into what fans can expect, reading: "At the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, a young Bob Dylan shakes up his act on the folk music scene by going electric and siring rock as the voice of a generation, defining one of the most transformative moments in 20th-century music."

It will be directed by James Mangold, who revealed that Chalamet will be singing some of Dylan's iconic discography in the film.

"It's such an amazing time in American culture and the story of Bob's — a young 19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with like two dollars in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years," he told Collider.

"First being embraced into the family of folk music in New York and of course kind of outrunning him at a certain point his star rises beyond belief. It's such an interesting true story and about such an interesting moment in the American scene.

"Different characters from Woody Guthrie to Bob Dylan to Pete Seeger to Joan Baez — they all have a role to play in this movie."

A Complete Unknown is yet to receive a release window.
