The first look at Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D star Natalia Cordova-Buckley's new film has been released, along with confirmation of UK-based screenings.

The Portrait is a "slow-burn psychological horror," that will receive its European premiere in a screening at Raindance Film Festival in London.

Cordova-Buckley stars as Sofia as she and her partner Alex (Ryan Kwanten, True Blood), deal with the latter's recovery from a horrific accident.

In an effort to rehabilitate her husband, Sofia takes him to a remote family villa in the countryside, where she becomes obsessed with a portrait that resembles him.

As her fascination grows, however, Sofia becomes aware of the portrait's power over her, and disturbing things start happening around the house.

The official synopsis describes the film as being packed with "Hitchcockian eeriness."

The cast is fleshed out by Academy Award-nominated actress and scream queen Virgina Madsen. She plays the "enigmatic cousin Mags" – a relative of Sofia's who knows about the man behind the portrait.

Cordova-Buckley starred in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as the superpowered Slingshot, from 2013–2020.

Tickets for the film's European Premiere screening at Curzon Soho, as part of Raindance Film Festival on October 31 are available now. Raindance will be running from October 25 to November 4, and is the UK's leading indie film festival.
