‘First-of-its-kind’ rooftop movie theater coming to Fort Worth hotel in Sundance Square

Film fans will soon be able to catch a flick under the stars at a new Fort Worth rooftop theater.

The Rooftop Cinema Club is expanding to North Texas atop The Worthington Renaissance Hotel in downtown Fort Worth. The company has cinemas in Houston, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles.

The rooftop cinema will show a variety of flicks, from hand-picked classics, cult films and recent releases, all curated by the company’s programming team. A concession stand will serve popcorn, soft drinks and beer.

Using the outdoor terrace atop of The Worthington will add a permanent entertainment destination for hotel guests and visitors to downtown, the company said.

The outdoor theater setup includes a large screen, comfortable seating and personal wireless headphones for a clearer audio experience. The company describes the ambiance as a “mixture of movie-watching, dining and nostalgia, all surrounded by breathtaking city views”.

“After our successful Drive-In and Summer Series in Dallas last year, we longed to find a permanent home for our flagship rooftop experience in North Texas,” said Gerry Cottle, Rooftop Cinema Club founder. “I’m enthusiastic we have found the ideal rooftop in downtown Fort Worth and that locals and visitors will enjoy this cinematic experience, whether for a fun night with friends and family or a date night.”

The partnership between the Rooftop Cinema Club and The Worthington will bring more quality entertainment to the heart of downtown, said Drew Hayden, general manger of The Worthington, in a press release.

“We were the first major, modern hotel created by the Bass family in downtown Fort Worth and the first structure in Sundance Square in 1981 and this new venue will be the first-of-its-kind for the city of Fort Worth,” Hayden said.

Tickets go on sale in early September for the Fort Worth location. The October movie schedule will be announced shortly after tickets go on sale. The Rooftop Cinema Club’s downtown Fort Worth location will open at The Worthington Renaissance hotel, 200 Main St., on Oct. 4.
