Fireworks in movie theater cause multiple injuries

Shouting “fire” in a theater is ill-advised. Throwing a firecracker into one is an even worse idea.

Several people were injured Tuesday night when a firework went off in a movie theater, police in Eagan, Minn. said. The frightening incident occurred in the southern suburbs of Minneapolis-St. Paul during a screening of “The Black Phone.” Now, cops want to know who lit the fuse.

Cops were told that at least one suspect lit the and tossed the firecracker into the Emagine Theater around 8:30 p.m. The explosive was described as “large.”

Local news outlet KARE 11 showed video of individuals in Minneapolis shooting fireworks at cars and people on July 4. Police said illegal pyrotechnics have been an issue “metro-wide.”

CBS News reported in late June that Minneapolis and St. Paul opted against hosting large Independence Day celebrations, citing, in part, insufficient parks department staffing. Many neighboring suburbs went ahead with their fireworks shows.

Starting next week, Minneapolis hosts its annual Aquatennial celebration, where lots of bombs are expected to be bursting in air.
