Firefighter injured in Easton Avenue blaze in Franklin

FRANKLIN (Somerset) – A firefighter was injured in a blaze in an unoccupied building under construction on Easton Avenue Friday.

Around 8:13 p.m., Friday, Franklin Township police responded to a property on Easton Avenue on reports of a fire inside where arriving officers found fire and smoke coming from the building, Franklin Township Police Department Lt. Vincent Wilson said.

More than 100 firefighters from Somerset, Middlebush, Millstone Valley, Elizabeth Ave, East Franklin, Community, South Bound Brook, Bound Brook, Finderne, North Brunswick, Hillsborough, Manville, Middlesex, Raritan, and Somerville fire departments responded to fight the blaze.

One firefighter was injured but did not require hospitalization.

The cause and origin of the fire are currently but the initial investigation indicates the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
