In Denver on March 7 a hazmat incident resulted in diesel oil spilled on the roadway and three people injured. Firefighters arrived on the scene but in addition to these brave heroes another creature showed up.

An orange cat who decided he was there to help.

KDVR reports, "“The Safety Officer tried explaining that humans had the situation under control, but the cat was determined to help anyway,” SMFR said.

SMFR said the cat initially hopped in the back of an ambulance, but paramedics “had more medical training and the patient didn’t need feline support.”

The best part of this story? One of the firefighters adopted the helpful orange cat and named it Hazi. Awwwww.

Things To Consider Before Adopting a Cat

Most indoor cats live between 12-18 years, so it's a long term commitment which you should take very seriously.

Even though cats aren't as high-maintenance as dogs are, you still need time to feed them, groom them, play with them and give them lots of attention. Cats can get bored easily and that's how you end up with a cat digging in your houseplants or climbing up your curtains.

Speaking of climbing up your curtains, cats require regular nail trims and scratching posts. Cats have a natural urge to scratch and it helps them keep their nails trim and remove old debris from their nails and to mark their territory. Plus, a scratching post is better than your sofa.

Make sure you can afford things like food, treats and regular veterinary check-ups, vaccinations, and preventive care. Be prepared for potential health issues and emergencies. And have your cat spayed or neutered.

Cats can be extremely affectionate, but usually when they want to be. This can involve waking you up at 2 am when they decide it's cuddle time.

Cats make such wonderful pets, and if you are interested in welcoming one to your family, please contact your local animal shelter or Humane Society.

Or, do like this firefighter did, and wait for the cat distribution system to find you!
