Fire damages two storage units

Dec. 5—HIGH POINT — A fire damaged two adjacent storage units in the eastern part of the city Tuesday morning.

A motorist passing American Self-Storage on Jamestown Parkway, commonly referred to as the Jamestown bypass, near its intersection with Enterprise Drive just before 7 a.m. called to report seeing smoke in the area, Deputy Chief Brian Evans of the High Point Fire Department said.

Firefighters arrived to find both storage units engulfed in flames.

"It was stacked from floor to ceiling inside both storage units," he said, but investigators didn't know yet what was stored in them.

"Right now they are going through the investigative process to see what caused the fire," Evans told The High Point Enterprise.

No one was injured, and crews brought the fire under control in 12 minutes. Investigators are trying to determine a damage estimate, Evans said.

Traffic on Jamestown Parkway was detoured for a period while crews brought the fire under control.

Twelve units and 21 firefighters worked at the scene of the fire.
