We've all been there. You're playing a racing game, but none of the hundreds of road cars, race cars, or vintage cars catch your eye. What you really want is to be racing something else entirely, like a cat lying completely still. Thanks to the Assetto Corsa modding community, that option finally exists.

A demo from a Twitter user shows that the cat is capable of lapping Tsukuba Circuit in under a minute, even after sliding out of control on three separate occasions. That is a fairly respectable time for a car, let alone a Garfield-like animal.

The cat is apparently powered by a 3.4-liter twin-turbo flat-six from a RUF. Naturally, the cat also drives a lot like the RUF, as it has been added into the game as a simple model swap for the original car. A black and white cat is also available, although there is no word if that cat is also utilizing flat-six power and no benchmark time has been set around Tsukuba with the alternate cat yet.

As this is a mod to the original game, cats are not yet officially involved in Assetto Corsa and are unavailable for console players. Hopefully, the runaway popularity of cat racing mods will change the hearts and minds of developers Kunos Simulazioni before Assetto Corsa 2's expected release in spring 2024.
