Ford confirmed Wednesday it will end production of its iconic Fiesta worldwide by the end of June 2023. It will be replaced by an all-electric version of the company's popular Puma crossover in Europe.

Ford published a video to one of its European YouTube channels bidding farewell to the famous hatchback, while also teasing its higher-riding, all-electric replacement. The Fiesta has been in production for 47 years, eventually becoming the best-selling car in Europe. Sales numbers for the car have fallen off in recent years, however, as buyers shift to crossovers. Ford killed off the three-door Fiesta in the summer amid falling sales, and now the entire car is on its way out.

The electric Puma will used Volkswagen's MEB platform and be built in Cologne, according to Automotive News. The plant is expected start production right as Fiesta production ends, with 200,000 EVs a year forecasted.

Don't expect this new Puma to come to United States. Ford stopped selling the Fiesta, as well as the Focus and the Fusion, in the U.S. back in 2018 due to slow sales. And it's never sold the gas-powered Puma here. Instead, we'll just have to make due with the Mustang Mach-E.
