Ever since the pandemic forced Amazon to move Prime Day from July to October in 2020, the holiday shopping season has started weeks before Halloween instead of the day after Thanksgiving. That reality created a retail landscape where all the big players chopped up their major winter shopping events into a series of smaller sales that ran throughout the entire season.

Many of those sales have continued into the new year.

In fact, most of America’s biggest retail chains are slashing prices in stores and online to get rid of leftover holiday merch, to start making room for the coming spring season, or to make up for slow Christmas sales numbers. No matter the reason, shoppers can still save big money at the biggest stores despite the changing of the calendar.

Here are the best deals happening right now at the country’s top chains.

Walmart: Winter Savings Spectacular

Walmart is still promoting its end-of-year clearance specials, not to mention thousands of Deals for Days specials. That last one shows just how eternal the holiday shopping season has become — Deals for Days was originally a November extension of Black Friday.

The big event, however, is the Winter Savings Spectacular, which promises reduced prices across the board, including in departments like toys, home, wellness, electronics, babies, and sports.

Currently, deals include the Hoover SmartWash Pet Carpet Cleaner for $138 instead of $299 and a TCL 55-inch smart TV for $319 instead of $599.99. Walmart says that some of the biggest savings, however, will be on seasonal items.

Target: Up to 50% Off Sale

Through the first week of the month — Jan. 8 for most categories — Target is slashing prices by as much as half for select items. The Up to 50% Off Sale — and several accompanying deals and offers that are also good through Jan. 8 — includes not just merchandise like electronics and apparel, but also food, beverages, and essentials like diapers. In some cases, alternative savings are offered through gift cards.

You get a $5 Target gift card, for example, when you buy three hand and body lotion products or four personal care products. You get a $10 gift card when you spend $40 or more on household essentials. In total, Target is running more than 20 promotions in early January.
