Memorial Day is Monday, May 27. Don’t pass up the chance to save money with these top picks at BJ’s.

A Grill

If you don’t own a grill, or if the one you have has seen better days, your BJ’s membership could be your ticket to hosting this Memorial Day weekend’s hottest backyard cookout.

A Char-Broil Performance Series four-burner gas grill with a soft cover is $299.99 after $50 off. A small but capable Nexgrill two-burner tabletop propane-fired grill is just $99.99 after $30 off. Roughly a dozen other models are marked down with special members-only prices, and for those expecting more modest crowds, BJ’s has a few petite but powerful portable options for less than $50.

Wellsley Farms Organic Salsa

Chips and salsa can keep hunger at bay while your new grill works its magic, and BJ’s has a special on two 35-ounce jars of its private-label Wellsley Farms brand for $9.79. When you tack on a $1.50 coupon, that’s 70 ounces for just $8.29, or about $0.12 an ounce. A name-brand salsa, like one from Tostitos, at a supermarket like ShopRite will cost you closer to $0.26 per ounce.

Italian Sausage

If Italian sausage will join burgers and dogs on your grill this Memorial Day, BJ’s has you covered with a three-pound container — your choice of hot or sweet — for $9.99. Each contains two 1.5-pound packages that combine for 12 four-ounce links of organic, 80% lean pork sausage for 10 bucks, with a penny to spare. That’s about $0.21 per ounce.

At Kroger, a one-pound package of Italian sausage sells for $5.99, or about $0.37 per ounce.

Corn on the Cob

Whether you grill, boil or bake your corn on the cob, it’s not Memorial Day weekend without this staple food. And with a BJ’s membership, you can get a 20-ounce package of six ears of sweet corn for $5.99 after a $1 coupon — about $0.30 an ounce, or $1 per ear. At Kroger, four ears will set you back $4.99, or $1.25 per ear.

Ground Beef Patties

The price of hamburger meat proves why it pays to buy in bulk with a BJ’s membership.

At BJ’s, packages of preformed patties weigh between 3.75 and 4.5 pounds and cost between $18.71 and $22.46 — $4.99 per pound, or $0.31 per ounce. At Target, the store’s Good and Gather brand patties sell for $7.49 per pound, or $0.47 per ounce.

Heinz Variety Pack

If you can have only three condiments this Memorial Day weekend, they had better be mustard, relish and ketchup — mostly ketchup.

With a BJ’s membership, you can get the whole shebang from the most famous name in condiments in one purchase. A Heinz Picnic Pack contains two 32-ounce ketchups, one 28-ounce yellow mustard and one 26-ounce sweet relish, all squeezable and mess-free.

Your price at BJ’s is $11.49. The exact same four-pack will cost you nearly three times as much at Target, which charges $27.99.
