Filippo Ganna and Elisa Balsamo to Ride New Pinarello Bolide at the Paris Olympics
It’s all about the bling. Pinarello has joined the ranks of bike brands rolling out their new models for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games. The Italian team will undoubtedly be riding in style with new versions of their Bolide track bike. Superstars Filippo Ganna and Elisa Balsamo will be on these new models in the team pursuit this August in Paris.
Ganna should accustomed to his Bolide F HR 3D, having ridden the previously unreleased model during his Hour Record success in 2022. The women's squad, on the other hand, will be riding the new Bolide HR C, a lighter carbon fiber model, at the Paris Games.
Ganna, who rides for team Ineos Grenadiers on the road, also set the 4K pursuit world record at sea level in 2022. The bike he’ll be on in Paris is virtually the same, save for a new color scheme.
The 3D-printed bikes are technically commercially available for a mere €28,750 (around $31,400 U.S. dollars). However, the carbon fiber model is at least a bit more reasonable, at €12,500 ($13,535).
The 3D-printed Scalmalloy bikes will be raced by the men’s endurance squad, the reigning Olympic Team Pursuit champions. They beat Denmark in the 2020 games (raced in 2021) to break the world record in the men’s Team Pursuit final.
According to the press release, Scalmalloy—a high-performance alloy made from scandium, aluminum, and magnesium—was chosen because it can withstand the increased force the male athletes produce. The lighter Bolide F HR C carbon fiber bike the women's squad will use will allow them to get up to speed as fast as possible.
“As an iconic Italian brand, we could not be prouder to work with the Italian track team, who like us, are continuing to push the boundaries of athletic performance,” said Fausto Pinarello, whose late father Giovanni founded the company in 1952.
“Our hope is that the men will defend their Olympic title on the track this summer and our super-strong women’s team also succeed in their quest for gold. We’ve done everything we can to give them the best possible chance.”
