The annual edition of Electronic Arts’ most popular global video game — FIFA23 — dropped Friday with plenty of Kansas City flavor.

“Ted Lasso” even makes an appearance.

As usual, all Major League Soccer teams and players are fully licensed in the game. Soccer fans can enjoy playing with the semi-authentic facial scans, kits and select MLS stadiums.

Children’s Mercy Park has yet to be added to the FIFA game series. But there’s still plenty for KC’s soccer faithful to like about this year’s game, as they can pore over the latest rankings for local favorites such as captain Johnny Russell, Daniel Salloi and more.

One of Sporting KC’s high-impact summer signings — Erik Thommy — is available in full SKC regalia. The other, seven-goal scorer Willy Agada, will be added later to the game’s Ultimate Team mode but is available in Career mode now.

Also packed into this year’s edition of the game — which, through pre-sales, some fans were able to get their hands on Tuesday — are four Kansas City women’s soccer players from the KC Current’s National Women’s Soccer League roster.

EA Sports still doesn’t have very many NWSL players available in the game, unfortunately, but it has pledged to keep adding more. (To date, the only NWSL players available are those included on a specific national team’s roster, and the only women’s club teams currently available are those in the English and French leagues.)

Here are the KC Current players currently available in this year’s edition, with their respective positions and rankings within the FIFA23 game, as well as the national teams for which they play in FIFA23’s “Women’s Super League”:

One more cool KC note from FIFA23: Sudekis, who grew up in Overland Park. makes his first video game appearance as the title character from the Emmy- and Apple+ award-winning TV series.

Lasso is usable as a manager in the Career and Ultimate team modes, as is the fictional English soccer side he manages on the show, AFC Richmond.
