Field set for this week’s PGA tournament in Kentucky. See which golfers will be here.
The field for the 2023 Barbasol Championship is set.
For the fifth time, the tournament will be held at Champions at Keene Trace in Nicholasville, which is about 25 minutes outside of Lexington.
And for the second straight year, Central Kentucky’s annual PGA Tour event will feature a strong international presence thanks to an existing partnership between the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour that provides access for both memberships to the Barbasol.
A field of about 150 golfers — comprised mainly of PGA Tour members, but also with strong representation from the DP World Tour — will descend on Keene Trace this week in search of what would be a lucrative PGA Tour triumph.
This week’s winner will receive a payout of $684,000 from a $3.8 million purse, in addition to earning a spot into next week’s British Open field.
A two-year PGA Tour exemption and 300 FedEx Cup points will also go to this week’s champion, who will also secure a spot in next year’s 2024 PGA Championship, which will be played in Louisville.
Here are the golfers that will compete for the 2023 Barbasol Championship title.
Trio of former major winners
Three golfers with a major championship victory to their name are expected to play in this year’s Barbasol Championship.
Geoff Ogilvy (2006 U.S. Open), Lucas Glover (2009 U.S. Open) and Jason Dufner (2013 PGA Championship) are all expected to be at Keene Trace this week.
Dufner played in the Barbasol last year and finished in a tie for 27th.
While Glover’s best stretch of professional golf came from 2007 through 2011 (a period during which he finished in the top 20 of all four major championships), his career has been revitalized in recent years.
Glover won his fourth PGA Tour event in 2021 at the John Deere Classic, and in recent weeks alone he’s finished in a tie for fourth at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and in a tie for sixth at the John Deere last weekend.
This recent uptick in form has allowed Glover to shoot back up the Official World Golf Rankings: With a current OWGR of No. 112, Glover is the highest ranked player in the Barbasol field.
