Fidelity pledges 620 new jobs in NC in coming months, with focus on Triangle area

Already among the largest employers in the Research Triangle, Fidelity Investments announced on Wednesday plans to hire 4,000 people companywide over the first half of 2023, including 620 new positions in North Carolina.

Most of these North Carolina hires will be at Fidelity’s Research Triangle Park campus in Durham.

“We take a long-term view to investing in our overall workforce and our people, just as we do in our businesses,” said Kirsten Kuykendoll, Fidelity’s head of talent acquisition, in a statement Wednesday.

The company said 57% of these new positions will be in technology.

As major tech firms like Google, Apple and Meta have recently laid off workers, financial firms like Fidelity and MetLife have kept up hiring technologists in the Triangle.

Fidelity ending 2022 with around 7,200 employees in the state, the vast majority based in Durham said Sterling Ingui, the regional site lead and product area leader at Fidelity’s RTP campus.

“North Carolina plays a critical role for the broader Fidelity,” she told The News & Observer in December. “Despite a lot of inflation pressures and economic uncertainty, we have strong business results and really high levels of engagement from our customers, which enables us to make the investment back into our businesses.”

Ingui said the company’s focus on enhancing “digital experiences” for clients has driven IT hiring.

Statewide, Fidelity hired for more than 2,650 jobs last year. Headquartered in Boston, Fidelity first announced plans to build its RTP campus in 2006.
