Ferguson sweeps district bowling titles. Plus St. Brendan swimming, region volleyball and more

The Ferguson boys’ bowling team won the district title in the South Division at Bird Bowl in Miami.

Columbus was the runner-up.

State qualifier Evan Viener of Palmetto totaled the highest series, and Donovin Lau of Coral Reef also qualified for state.

Ferguson swept the district team titles by winning the girls’ division, too.

Braddock was the runner-up.

State qualifier Natalia Findeisen of Ferguson recorded the highest series, and Palmetto’s Maggie Meltzer and Halle Meltzer also qualified for state, joining Viener.

State is Tuesday through Thursday in Orlando.

District swimming

The St. Brendan swim teams delivered some standout performances in the District 12-2A Swimming Championships, hosted by Gulliver Prep. The Sabres were fifth of nine teams in the boys’ and girls’ divisions.

District 12-2A: St. Brendan: Richard Navarro (1st, 100 back, 57:45; 3rd, 200 IM, 2:10.97). Andriy Huertas (2nd, 100 breast, 1:04.21; 4th, 50 free, 23.39). Anacristina Uribe (4th, 100 back, 1:12.89; 6th, 200 free, 2:15.77). Victoria Corrales (4th, 100 fly, 1:07.98; 6th, 200 IM, 2:35.37). Tatiana Loo (7th, 100 free, 1:04.69; 8th, 50 free, 28:36). Girls’ 400 free relay-Anacristina Uribe, Victoria Corrales, Isabella Salazar, Tatiana Loo (3rd, 4:22.31). Boys’ 400 free relay-Richard Navarro, Ty Kilayko, Erik Somoza, Andriy Huertas (3rd, 3:27:82). Best individual times: Karina Santamaria, Katelyn Flores, Janessa Horta, Isabella Salazar, Kevin Cachinero, Sergio Mora.

Football

In the Indecent League playoffs, No.1 seeded Ransom Everglades edged No.4 seeded Coral Shores 36-35 in double OT. Gabe Menendez de Alencar caught a 2-point pass over the middle from QB Jackson Pegg to win it. The Raiders (6-2) play Archbishop Carroll on Friday at Tropical Park at 3:30 p.m. for the independent league title.

Archbishop Carroll 26, Palmer Trinity 15: Kenny Pembleton’s 2 interceptions helped the Bulldog defense stop Palmer’s final two drives. Brandon Miranda added 2 sacks to help the defensive effort. On offense, Manny Bynum scored 2 touchdowns, one on the ground and one in the air, and Sylus Villanueva added a touchdown. Alejandro Isaza eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark on the season with 117 yards on 15 carries. AC (8-1).
