Here's all you need to know about fencing at Paris 2024.

Fencing schedule and venue at Paris 2024

The fencing events run from 27 July to 4 August at the Grand Palais.

There are 12 medal events - women's individual épée, foil and sabre, men's individual épée, foil and sabre, women's team épée, foil and sabre and men's team épée, foil and sabre.

The medal bouts for the women’s individual épée and men’s individual sabre take place on 27 July.

Scoring and rules in fencing

In fencing, two competitors, each holding a weapon in one hand, face each other to strike their opponent on a valid target area of the body. The rules differ according to the type of weapon used.

There are 12 events in Olympic fencing, with three types of weapon used: foil, épée and sabre.

The first fencer to reach 15 points, or scores the most points at the completion of three three-minute rounds, wins the match. In team fencing, the first team to score 45 points, or the team leading when time runs out, wins.

Who has won the most medals in Olympic fencing?

Italy have won the most Olympic fencing medals with 130 (49 gold), with France second with 123 (44 gold).

Great Britain have won nine Olympic fencing medals, one gold and eight silver.
