Felon charged with stealing mail, credit cards in Richmond, Columbia and Burke counties

A Keysville woman was arrested after allegedly stealing a "significant quantity" of mail from Burke, Richmond and Grovetown neighborhoods, along with numerous credit cards, driver's licenses, Social Security cards and checks.

Jessica Rae Mabli, of Keysville, is charged with five felonies and three misdemeanors, including two counts of theft by taking U.S. Mail, possession of fentanyl, cruelty to children in the second degree, breaking probation in Richmond County, driving with a suspended or revoked license, driving a child without a seatbelt, and littering on a highway, according to a news release from the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

She was granted a $3,500 bond, according to Burke County jail records.

Dispatch received a call at about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday from someone in the Northlake Drive subdivision reporting a suspicious woman rummaging through mailboxes in their neighborhood, according to the release.

Deputies were dispatched and a traffic unit, actively patrolling Highway 25 North, spotted Mabli driving her car away from the Northlake Drive area, according to the release. When deputies initiated a traffic stop, she made an abrupt turn onto Four Points Road and started disposing mail onto the road.

Mabli was apprehended without further incident after a brief chase, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies noted Mabli was accompanied by her child, who was seated in the front passenger seat.

Investigators executed a search warrant of Mabli's car and found more mail and other items.

The sheriff's office learned some of the stolen credit cards had been used for unauthorized purchases at local stores and are collaborating with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Postal Inspection Service as the case progresses, according to the release.

"The case remains under investigation, and further information will be released as it becomes available," according to the sheriff's office. "The Burke County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone who may have been affected by mail theft in Burke, Columbia or Richmond Counties to report the incident to their local law enforcement agency."

Mabli's criminal history in Augusta

Augusta clerk of court records show Mabli has been convicted of multiple felonies in Richmond County.

Here is a list of her criminal convictions, according to clerk of court records:

  • November 2013: Mabli was originally charged with felony drug possession and criminal use of an article with an altered ID mark, but only pleaded guilty to the felony drug charge. She was sentenced to one year in prison.

  • January 2014: Mabli pleaded guilty to felony identity fraud and was sentenced to five years of confinement and five years of probation.

  • March 2020: Mabli pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and was sentenced to six months in prison.

  • June 2020: Mabli pleaded guilty to felony possession of a controlled substance, felony possession of methamphetamine and felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance. She was sentenced to three years of probation for each charge.

  • October 2023: Mabli was charged with misdemeanor driving on the wrong side of the road and received a traffic ticket.
