New Fear Street movie coming to Netflix, author RL Stine confirms
RL Stine has confirmed that Netflix are developing a new film in the Fear Street series, revealing that The Prom Queen is the latest work to be adapted.
The streaming service previously released a trilogy of films – 1994, 1978 and 1666 – which adapted some of Stine’s novels, and the author revealed via X/Twitter that production on the latest instalment is currently underway.
“Movie News: I can finally announce that a new Fear Street movie is about to go into production for Netflix. It's based on my Fear Street book, The Prom Queen. Good news!” he wrote, accompanying an image of the novel’s front cover.

The synopsis for The Prom Queen, which was released in 1992, reads: “A spring night... soft moonlight... five beautiful Prom Queen candidates... dancing couples at the Shadyside High prom – these should be the ingredients for romance.
“But stir in one brutal murder – then another, and another – and the recipe quickly turns to horror. Lizzie McVay realises that someone is murdering the five Prom Queen candidates one by one – and that she may be next on the list! Can she stop the murderer before the dance is over – for good?”
It is currently unknown who will be involved in the adaptation, which will focus on a new set of the characters from the previous trilogy. All three instalments were directed by Leigh Janiak, and the director previously outlined her vision for the series.

“One of the things that I talked about before I was hired was that we have a potential here to create a horror Marvel, where you can have slasher killers from lots of different era,” she said.
“You have the canon of our main mythology that's built around the fact that the devil lives in Shadyside, so there's also room for everything else. I think that my hope is that audiences like it enough that we can start building out [more].”
The Fear Street trilogy is available to stream on Netflix.
