What’s the favorite pie in NC? This one ranks as most-searched ahead of Thanksgiving

North Carolinians are preparing their Thanksgiving tables, and one popular dessert is on their minds.

Apple pie is the state’s most-searched flavor ahead of the holiday, according to data shared with McClatchy News on Friday, Nov. 18.

In fact, apple pie led online searches in 28 states, compared to 22 where people were most curious about pumpkin pie, a map from Google Trends shows.

To gather the data, Google focused on topics people looked up from Oct. 20-27. The search engine company said it “compared multiple pies and then ranked them across each state to see which pie was searched most.”

The results were released one year after a High Point University Poll found pumpkin pie was the state’s favorite flavor to eat around the holidays, narrowly edging out apple and pecan.

More recently, a Raleigh bakery with popular pies was named the best place for pastries in North Carolina, McClatchy News reported.

Apple pies aren’t the only foods people may be craving ahead of Thanksgiving. The data shared with McClatchy News also shows that North Carolina residents searched for:

  • Smoked turkey over roast turkey

  • Thanksgiving football over the Thanksgiving parade

  • Sausage stuffing more than other places across the nation
